The
World Cup is a great time to
be thinking about recycling,
given that the amount of waste
we produce shoots
up during major sporting tournaments.
ITV
football presenter Gabby Logan,
former England player Graeme
le Saux and actor and impressionist
Alistair McGowan are backing
the campaign, to make a BIG impact
this summer.
Gabby
Logan said: “I’m
thrilled to be supporting ‘the
BIG recycle’, because my
family and I are already keen
recyclers. We always use our
council’s doorstep collection
service, and try to shop sensibly
to buy recycled or recyclable
goods and packaging. It’s
easy to get into the habit, and
it makes a lot of environmental
sense.
“Given
that we generate even more waste
than usual during a major sporting
tournament, I think the World
Cup is a great time to remind
people to do their bit I hope
everyone will make recycling
their goal this summer.”
Who
are the organisers?
The
BIG recycle is jointly organised
and funded by WRAP - a UK programme
established to promote resource
efficiency - in partnership with
British Glass, the trade confederation
for the glass industry; Corus,
one of the world’s largest
metal producers; Nouvelle, the
UK’s number one recycled
toilet tissue; Novelis, the world’s
largest recycler of aluminium
beverage cans; PaperChain, a
campaign from the Confederation
of Paper Industries (CPI) to
promote the collection and use
of recovered paper; the Corrugated
Packaging Industry, the corrugated
sector of the CPI and Recoup,
a national charity developing
plastics recycling in the UK.
It is a key part of the ‘Recycle Now’ campaign for England, WRAP’s
year-round promotional campaign to get people to recycle more stuff, more often.
