Forest
Family Says “We Are
Now Recycling!”
Last
month Gloucestershire County
Council ran the Supporting Recycling
in Gloucestershire project (SPRiNG)
that was held in Cinderford, where
recycling rates are among the lowest
in Gloucestershire. It was
an intensive education programme
at Forest View School and Littledean
School focused on the importance
of recycling and the need to reduce
the amount of rubbish going to
landfill.
As part
of the follow up to this project
Kate Cole the Councils Waste Education Officer who has been leading the project
went to meet one of the families that took part. Ben is a Year 6 pupil at Forest
View School and as a direct result of the Spring Project taking place at Ben’s
school, he was able to take a green box home. His family weren’t
recycling at all before the project
and now he has encouraged his mum
to put cans paper and glass into
their new green box. Holly has
also caught the recycling bug and
is helping to do her bit too.
Ben
and Holly’s Mum Mandy
said “Because Ben brought
a green box home it made it very
easy for me to start recycling.
I used to look at other people’s
green boxes and I knew we ought
to have a go, but I didn’t
quite get round to it.“
Waste
Education Officer Kate Cole said “We
are really pleased with how well
the SPRING Project was received
by both the children and parents.
I am so glad to have met the
Johnson family, as it really
makes me feel that we are making
a difference. Hopefully this is
a similar story for all of the
children I have taught over the
past month.”
Gloucestershire County Council
are hoping to continue the project
with other schools but are awaiting
the final outcome of the project
so watch this space!
