Recycle more paper for Tewkesbury Borough

Great news! You can now recycle more types of paper as part of the kerbside and neighbourhood collection scheme. In a direct response to resident's enquiries, Tewkesbury Borough Council is pleased to announce that the types of paper recycled at the kerbside and in the recycling banks has been extended.

With pressure to meet a 40% recycling target by 2010, items which can now be recycled along with newspapers, magazines and white paper are Yellow Pages, telephone directories, all sizes of catalogues and brochures, junk mail and brown envelopes. This is a timely announcement as the Yellow Pages are due for distribution at the end of March.

The allowance of this type of paper to be recycled along with the other types is a result of new technology at the paper mills to handle this type of material. In the past the thick glued spine could cause problems with the reprocessing.

However, the Borough Council stresses the importance
of making sure that contaminating items are not included
with the paper. This includes plastic wrapping some catalogues are wrapped in and also the free items given away with junk mail such as pens, DVDs, CDs. Contamination in this form can result in paper loads being rejected which as of yet has never happened.
