Home Composting

Home composting your kitchen and garden waste will also help combat global warming.

When kitchen and garden waste is sent to landfill it increases the amount of methane being released into the atmosphere. This is because deep inside the landfill the waste breaks down in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic) conditions to produce methane. As a greenhouse gas, methane is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide, resulting in a far greater impact on global warming.

Composting at home takes place in the presence of oxygen (aerobic conditions) and produces carbon dioxide instead of methane. By composting kitchen and garden waste at home we are combating the harmful effects methane has on global warming.
