Cheltenham Resident Wins Home Composting Competition

Compost competition winnerA resident from Woodmancote near Cheltenham has been announced as Gloucestershire’s lucky winner of the Recycle Now Home Composting ‘Golden Bin’ competition this week.

33 year old Lynda Williams ordered a compost bin as part of the Compost Awareness Week celebrations in May, and received £50 of garden centre vouchers, donated by DHL, the logistics company that delivers compost bins for the Recycle Now Compost at Home Campaign.

Lynda will now be able to recycle up to one third of her household waste, including both kitchen and garden waste and ‘brown’ waste like toilet roll tubes and egg boxes, by composting at home. Not only will her free, home-made compost keep the garden in bloom, but also reduce the amount of methane - a dangerous climate change gas - that is released into the atmosphere when waste decomposes in landfill.

Those who missed out on this year’s Compost Awareness Week need not fear - cut-price compost bins are available to buy throughout the year. To find out what bins are available, residents can visit the compost bin page or phone 0845 077 0757.
