Back to basics

A well-stocked store cupboard can be a real life-saver over the busy festive period. Keep a variety of goods on the shelves and you'll always have the ingredients standing by to pull together a delicious meal for guests or to jazz up your Christmas leftovers.

Don't worry if you don't use all your store cupboard items, If they're not used or opened they last well into the New Year. Try jars of roasted peppers & olives, tinned meats, pate and smoked fish, chutneys, pickles, and luxury soups. Dried fruit and nuts are great for the living-room table and canned fruits are perfect for trifles and cheesecakes.

And when the festivities are over and the chocolates, crisps and biscuits are lingering to tempt you as you possibly start a diet, throw them in the direction of a high shelf, rather than the bin, this means you don’t waste those pennies and the children will thank you.
