A new campaign aimed at raising the profile of local recycling banks throughout Gloucestershire, is being launched today.
Materials including plastic bottles, cans, glass jars and bottles, paper and cardboard can be taken to recycling banks at more than 200 locations in the County. This prevents them being sent to landfill, which is not only damaging to the environment but also becoming increasingly expensive. Landfill tax will rise from £32 per tonne to £40 per tonne from April this year.
The 6 District authorities and the County Council, which make up the Gloucestershire Waste Partnership, are running this new campaign, to highlight the importance of recycling banks in local communities.
Councillor Stan Waddington, Chairman of the GWP said: “The Councils have agreed a number of pledges. These include making sure the banks are serviced and emptied regularly, a promise that your local council will constantly review the types of materials that can be recycled, as well as assuring the public that all materials collected are recycled.”
In return the public are being asked to put the correct items in the recycling
In return, the public are being asked to put the correct items in the recycling banks – to avoid contamination, to wash and squash all plastic bottles and cans and flatten cardboard boxes. If there are any problems at the site, the public are being urged to contact their local council.
Campaign posters advertising recycling banks will be displayed on buses in the County, and within council tax leaflets, which are sent to every household in Gloucestershire
