Gloucester City Council is making improvements to the way residents refuse is collected.

To help residents to recycle more they will be introducing a new weekly food waste collection and enhanced recycling scheme which will help to reduce the food waste that ends up in the landfill sites. There will also be collections of all plastic bottles, light card (non corrugated) and household batteries in green recycling boxes.

In January 2010, two new food waste caddies will be delivered to the majority of Gloucester properties. One larger one to be kept outside and a smaller caddy for the kitchen. Details of the new service and a collection calendar will be delivered with these. The food waste will be taken to a special processing plant where it will be recycled into compost, for use on farms.

You can wash your caddy out to clean them or you can line them with either newspaper or kitchen roll paper as these are fully compostable.

Alternatively, you may wish to buy suitable paper bin liners and there are several commercial companies who supply these.

N.B Flats will not be included in the roll out of the first phase, for more information please contact Gloucester City Council.
