New recycling services take centre stage
A special theatre production about the new door to door recycling collection services coming soon to Tewkesbury.
The play which centres on the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, is performed by actors from Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury.
It is targeted at children, with the aim of encouraging their parents to make full use of the new improved door to door recycling collection services.
The theatre company is visiting schools in Tewkesbury to promote the new scheme.
The production was also a big hit earlier this year with Gloucester Schools, where new recycling collection services for Gloucester City was promoted.
Maggie Tildesley, Youth and Community Director at the Roses Theatre said: “In a recent preview performance, the characters in the play such as the host Lesley Gusto, Callum the kitchen caddy and Kathy the kerbside caddy, appealed to children in a very positive way.
“They learnt about how to recycle in a fun and informative way. “The play is very interactive. It features live performance, original music especially written for the play, film and puppetry. “We believe it will inspire young people to participate in recycling, and in turn encourage their parents to do the same.” In Tewkesbury Borough, a wider range of recyclable materials will be collected door to door, and a weekly food waste collection service will be introduced.
The food waste will be used to create useful compost, as is the case in the Cotswolds and Gloucester.
Tewkesbury borough will benefit from April 12th. Councillor Stan Waddington, Cabinet member for Environment, said: “The play is a great way to engage with young people."
“It is important to encourage the next generation to recycle as much as possible.”
“I welcome the changes to the Gloucester and Tewkesbury collection services which will help increase our recycling performance towards our target of at least 60%.”
