Free training to set up a community compost scheme
The Community Composting Network are working with Gloucestershire County Council to try and increase the number of Community Composting schemes in the county.
Gloucestershire currently has a number of successful community composting schemes, based in local villages and within allotment sites. Such projects are run by dedicated volunteers. Local householders (who usually pay a small annual charge) are able to take their green waste to a main site in a village or town for composting. By using a local facility like this, it saves residents time and money by not having to drive to their local Household Recycling Centre, and they are able to use the finished compost produced at the community composting site.
A initial forum organised by the Community Composting Network was held in Gloucester on January 8th at the Guildhall, and proved very popular. If you weren’t able to come, there is still an opportunity to take part.
Special workshops take place over the weekend of February 5th and 6th for those interested in setting up a Community Composting scheme. The first day, Saturday 5th February, begins at 9.45am until 4.30pm and will take place at Lower Slaughter Composting Club and Lower Slaughter Village Hall.
The second day starts at 10am until 4.30pm and will take place in Stroud at a venue yet to confirmed.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided free of charge on both days
If you wish to attend the workshops, please register by contacting Jane Wilde or the CCN office.
