Appeal for Cans
The Stable Company in Cheltenham, who work with a number of disabled and disadvantaged people in the local community, are appealing for empty aluminium and tin cans to help raise much needed funds.
The campaign is being led by Project Director Mike Hopkins, a farmers son, who used to work for a well known DIY chain and decided to take a brand new direction in life by setting up The Stable Company with friends.
The organisation have many different activities for vulnerable people including gardening related tasks and helping to prepare the fruit and vegetable boxes, which are sold to Gloucestershire residents. This is the Stable Project’s main source of income and so far around 80 households take advantage of this service.
The organisation also maintain an allotment at Swindon Village, where they grow fresh produce. The long term aim is to have a small holding with animals and a community composting area. The Stable Company is currently looking at possible sites for this.
Meanwhile, the cash raised from recycling cans is used to help keep The Stable Company’s fruit and vegetable box delivery van on the road. The organisation will collect cans free of charge. Alternatively, they can be dropped off at 56 Business Park off Tewkesbury Road on Fridays. For further information call 01242 268 178 or go online: www.thestablecompany.org
