Bag a bargain bin before price rise
Gloucestershire residents are being encouraged to buy a compost bin from £12 (plus £5 delivery charge) before April 1st, when the cost will go up.
Currently the price of a 220 litre bin is £12.00 and a 330 litre bin £15.00 (plus £5 delivery charge). If you buy two, you pay half price for the second bin.
By composting at home, you not only reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill, but also create some useful compost for your garden within 9 to 12 months.
In addition to garden waste - tea bags, vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, crushed egg shells, corrugated cardboard, wool and shredded confidential documents, can all be added to your compost bin.
Gloucestershire County Council has nearly 20 volunteer Master Composters, who give help and advice to the public on all aspects of composting. One of the volunteers is Mike Harrison
He said: “I really enjoy encouraging other people to compost. It is such a natural process and a great way of using waste. I’ve been composting for the last ten years and I use the end product all over my garden, especially my vegetable patch.”
You can buy a compost bin by clicking here or simply calling 0844 571 4444.
Residents can seek help on any composting issues by contacting one of the County Council’s Master Composters. For more details contact Simon Brown, Community Liaison and PR Officer for Waste Management on 01452 425 325.
