Recycling on the go
Cotswold District Council is installing new litter bins which will enable the public to recycle more cans, and will also be introducing regular environmental patrols to crack down on littering and dog fouling.
The Council is always looking for ways to encourage waste recycling, and is introducing more environmentally friendly litter bins at a number of locations across the district. The new bins will contain a separate recyclable section for used cans. Once collected, the cans will be recycled alongside other materials collected from residents’ properties.
“These new bins will not only cut down on littering, but will also help us to reduce recyclable waste going to landfill"
Cabinet Lead for the Environment, Councillor David Fowles, commented: “These new bins will not only cut down on littering, but will also help us to reduce recyclable waste going to landfill. I’m sure they will go down well with local residents, and I am confident that they will be well used.”
Additionally, the Council’s Environmental Wardens are joining forces with local Police Community Support Officers and other Council staff to undertake regular lunchtime patrols which will be on the look-out for littering and dog fouling. The patrols, which begin at the end of June, will target town centres and areas across the district where dog fouling is a known problem.
Councillor Fowles explained: “The vast majority of people in the district do their utmost to keep the Cotswolds clean and tidy, which is why we have one of the top recycling rates in the country. However, it is time to take a stand against the anti-social minority, and I have been assured that most residents will welcome this ‘get tough’ approach.”
