Some interesting nappy facts!

Baby wearing real nappy, surrounded by real nappies
  • Every day, 8 million disposable nappies get sent to landfill in the UK; about 86,000 in Gloucestershire!
  • Landfill costs Gloucestershire over £100k per year
  • a baby uses about half a tonne (about 5000) disposables from birth to potty (2.5 yrs average)
  • Some children stay in night time nappies until they are 7/8 years
  • it's estimated that disposable nappies could take up to 500 years to rot away – if Henry VIII had worn disposable nappies they would still be there!
  • Savings from using cloth nappies instead of disposables can amount to £600 for the first baby alone
  • As the family grows, your nappies can be used for the next baby and the next. Then, they can be passed on to friends or sold secondhand, if they are in good condition.
  • Home washing costs as little as £2.00 per week, including the price detergents and energy.
  • Bamboo terry fabric (very popular for nappies) is very absorbent, very slim in comparison to cotton and stays silky soft, without tumble drying, even in a hard water area like Gloucestershire.
