Congratulations to volunteers at Bisley Community Composting Scheme. In June they were awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the MBE for volunteer groups. The prestigious national honour recognises outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups voluntarily devoting their time for the benefit of others.
Each year Bisley Community Composting Scheme processes around 50 tonnes of garden waste from more than 100 members who live in the village. Each member is entitled to free compost produced on the site.
On July 26th the management committee of the scheme received a certificate signed by The Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal, presented by Her Majesty’s representative in Gloucestershire – HM Lord Lieutenant Sir Henry Elwes, at a special ceremony attended by around 40 people.

To help promote community composting and provide information for those planning to set up a scheme, Bisley Community Composting Scheme now have their own website. Teacher Claire Carpenter, along with children from the local Thomas Keeble School (as pictured below) helped create the site. For more details visit www.bisleycommunitycompostscheme.org.uk
