Community composting

What is community composting?

community compostingCommunity composting brings together local groups and individuals to enable them to produce compost from local green / food waste and distribute it back to their members.  Community compost sites are run on a not-for-profit basis.

What are the benefits of community composting?

  • Reduces biodegradable waste going to landfill or incineration
  • Turns a locally arising 'waste' problem into a locally available resource
  • Provides training, employment and volunteering opportunities as well as education and awareness raising
  • Helps reduce peat use

Where are the community composting sites in Gloucestershire?

We currently support these community composting sites:

  • Bisley
  • Lansdown Community Composting Club
  • South Cerney

Bisley Community Compost Scheme have their own website which is full of interesting news and articles www.bisleycommunitycompostscheme.org.uk
