What is community composting?
Community composting brings together local groups and individuals to enable them to produce compost from local green / food waste and distribute it back to their members. Community compost sites are run on a not-for-profit basis.
What are the benefits of community composting?
- Reduces biodegradable waste going to landfill or incineration
- Turns a locally arising 'waste' problem into a locally available resource
- Provides training, employment and volunteering opportunities as well as education and awareness raising
- Helps reduce peat use
